Tantrum was hired by Weber-Shandwick to create a campaign for the Centers of Disease Control to remind the public about the importance of childhood vaccination since COVID-19 concerns caused many people to delay their routine medical care.
Understand the tensions parents face.
Bring urgency to the need for children (age 3–6) to get caught up on their routine vaccinations. Unfortunately, many American medical institutions at large speak at the Black community, with little regard for how they feel or think.
Remind parents of the importance of routine vaccines.
Increase the number of true, reflective, and relatable images of Black childhood joy in the media to counteract the images of violence encountered on a daily basis.
Create a targeted campaign based on universal truths.
Covid-19 was extremely taxing on the spirit of the Black community. Simple moments of joy is an act of resistance and self-preservation from the collective trauma the community is facing.
Protect the innocence of childhood.
The focus of the campaign was to reach the public through fun, approachable images of diverse children engaging in their pre-COVID activities and “Play Catch-Up” on all the moments they’ve missed out on.
