Tantrum Agency Promotes Senior Designer Michael Gutierrez-Nery to Art Director

Atlanta/Denver – January 2026 – Award-winning, full-service agency Tantrum has announced the promotion of its senior designer Michael Gutierrez-Nery to the role of art director, a senior leadership position within the company.

Gutierrez-Nery joined the Tantrum team in 2022 and has since built a portfolio of projects spanning industries and sectors. One of Michael’s first projects with the agency was with global architecture firm Gensler. His Tantrum resume has since expanded to include retailer TOPO Athletics; global nonprofits Share Our Strength and the Child Mind Institute; trade show, exhibit and event company Freeman; and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

As a designer, Gutierrez-Nery has become known for his ability to seamlessly transition between roles, from designer to illustrator to writer to strategist. This versatility is part of why Tantrum’s founder and CEO, David Tann, knew Michael would be an ideal fit for the role.

As art director, he will have the opportunity to bring all these skills to practice as he’ll be responsible for guiding the overall visual style and direction of projects, ensuring the final product aligns with brand goals and meets client objectives. Gutierrez-Nery will also oversee partnerships and business development for the agency in Denver  – Tantrum’s second satellite location - where he is based.

Gutierrez-Nery’s entrance into the design world was not typical, which Tann believes contributes to his unique point of view. He began at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as a pre-med student with plans to specialize in psychiatry, but graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a new plan to pursue a career in design. Self-taught and only months out of school, Gutierrez-Nery landed his first creative job with a Las Vegas retailer and hasn’t looked back. Michael now brings 10 years of industry experience to his new role.

“Michael is one of the most intriguing and talented people I’ve ever met,” said Tann. “Promoting him simply reflects the impact he already makes for our team and clients. He has brought voice and vision to Tantrum. He designs with an empathy and intuition that can’t be taught. He digs layers deep into every project and returns with insights that elevate. His path wasn’t traditional, and that’s his edge. He brings all of who he is to his work, and we are all the better because of it. I’m honored to welcome him into this leadership position.”
