Atlanta, GA - September 22, 2021 – The American Marketing Association’s Atlanta Chapter (AMA Atlanta) has announced David Tann, founder and CEO of branding and creative consultancy Tantrum Agency, as its 2021 Marketer of the Year. The recognition acknowledges Tann’s 20 years in the industry marked by his work with some of the world’s most high-profile brands as well as his contributions to his local design and civic community.
Tann will be honored as Marketer of the Year during AMA Atlanta’s annual AMY Awards (AMYs), which pays homage to the city’s most distinguished marketers and campaigns. The Marketer of the Year is given annually to an individual in Atlanta’s marketing community who has demonstrated outstanding creativity, innovation and leadership.
“David is a distinguished marketer who has made an incredible impact on the Atlanta marketing community,” said Jessica Dupee, AMA Atlanta President. “He's helped shape some of Atlanta's well-known brands and strives to ensure that we are grooming the next generation of marketers for greatness. We are so grateful for the impact that he has made.”
A graduate of Wake Forest University and The Portfolio Center, Tann’s career has included work with global brands such as Hallmark, Abercrombie & Fitch, Bath & Body Works, Kohl’s and Atlanta-based Carter’s/OshKosh B’Gosh.
It was his position with Carter’s that brought him back to his hometown and would ultimately lead to his next major career move: being named vice president and creative director for the Atlanta Hawks and Philips Arena.
In 2018, Tann said goodbye to the Hawks to pursue his lifelong dream of owning his own creative agency. Since launching Tantrum, Tann and his team have continued to work within the sports arena while also adding clients and projects within education, engineering, tech, retail, nonprofit, entertainment and the arts.
The Tantrum client roster includes the likes of The Dallas Mavericks, The Athlete’s Foot, The Atlanta Dream, The Gathering Spot and DJ Khaled’s BLESSWELL as well as public and nonprofit sector organizations such as Alma Domestic Violence Foundation, Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD), Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public School System and Share Our Strength.
Commitment to Investing in the Next Generation of Creatives
Outside of his work with Tantrum, Tann honors his passion for empowering the next generation of creatives. Tann has more than 20 years of experience in the classroom. He has served as an adjunct professor at the Miami Ad School at Portfolio Center, where he has taught Retail Branding for many years. He has visited several schools and organizations as a guest lecturer, including Clemson University, the Fashion Institute of Technology, the Southern Region of the Graphic Artists Guild, and the Atlanta Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Artists. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Furman University’s Master of Arts in Strategic Design. He is also a community partner of Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy in Southwest Atlanta.
Tann is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He resides in metro Atlanta with his wife and two boys.
